Daft Punk score first UK No. 1 album with Random Access Memories

Daft Punk are celebrating after topping the UK albums chart for the first time ever with Random Access Memories.

The French duo’s fourth LP has become the fastest selling album of the year so far after shifting a staggering 165,000 copies during its first week.

The first track to be taken from Random Access Memories, Get Lucky featuring N.E.R.D’s Pharrell Williams and Chic’s Nile Rodgers, has also become 2013’s biggest selling single so far.

Since its release six weeks ago, it has sold more than 711,000 copies.

Martin Talbot, the Official Charts Company’s Managing Director, said: ‘After the massive success of their first Official UK Number 1 single Get Lucky, it is little surprise that Daft Punk have also secured their first Official Number 1 album in the UK, too – but they have done so with some style.
